You must register with French Social Security on the etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr website. In France, social security is mandatory and free for international students who are not from the European Union.
Once registration is complete, you will receive a certificate of affiliation to French social security. Apply for your “carte vitale” (health insurance card) on ameli.fr and declare your preferred physician during your first consultation.

It may take several months to process your social security registration. During this period, you will be covered, but the reimbursement of your healthcare costs will only take place when you obtain your social security number.
